It was far from the performance that will have supporters thinking that success is around the corner but San Lorenzo held on for a goalless draw against Atlético Mineiro in Belo Horizonte to progress to the second round of this year’s Copa Sudamericana.
Whether Claudio Biaggio will still be in charge after the close season is still unclear with many still questioning the coach and much of the squad despite sealing a 2019 Copa Libertadores spot via the Superliga.
Atlético Mineiro dominated for large parts on home soil but San Lorenzo were able to keep them out thanks to some last ditch defending and poor finishing.
Ultimately Gabriel Gudiño’s goal in the Nuevo Gasometro in April was enough and now San Lorenzo will hope to make improvements to the team ahead of next season and the continuation of the tournament.
