With Boca Juniors already crowned champions and the four relegated teams looking like B Nacional clubs for months, the Superliga’s final round wasn’t packed with drama but did produce an error-strewn race for Copa Libertadores qualification.
Huracán battled back to earn a point against Fernando Gago’s Boca Juniors and on Saturday morning that didn’t look like it would be enough for El Globo. Independiente manager Ariel Holan had questioned whether Boca’s second-string captained by the fit-again Gago would give it their all. They did, Huracán dropped points, and it was all over to El Rojo, Talleres and Racing Club.
Talleres were next up looking likely that they would need three points from the trip to Bahía Blanca. Guido Herrera’s last ditch penalty was also only enough for a point as Olimpo looked to have left the door wide open.

However, Independiente’s defeat to Unión in Santa Fe coupled with Racing Club’s 3-1 loss to Colón in Avellaneda saw Huracán and Talleres cling onto their places in the 2019 Libertadores.
River Plate joined the Avellaneda duo in the Sudamericana (admittedly any one of these three may yet qualify for the 2019 Libertadores via this year’s Libertadores or the Copa Argentina) after a 2-0 victory over San Lorenzo.
Defensa y Justicia sealed their place with a 2-0 win against already relegated Arsenal and Unión and Colón completely the picture with their aforementioned victories.
This relegated Argentinos Juniors to twelfth in the table and outside continental competition, as their point away to Vélez looked likely to be enough until Colón pulled off their surprise result.
