Belief continues to grow for Union who at the start of the season looked dead and buried but after ending their winless run have now gone on to take 7 from the last 9 possible points and more importantly closed the gap on their relegation rivals, a feat which looked impossible some weeks a go. A more disciplined and cohesive Union took advantage of some costly mistakes from Tigre’s defence and in stopping danger man, Ruben Botta made the team from Victoria look rather toothless. For Tigre, this was a missed opportunity to close the gap on leaders Lanus and by the end of this round of fixtures they could find themselves 6 points off the pace. REPORT, GOALS AND THIS WEEKEND’S FIXTURES HERE….
TIGRE 1 – 2 UNION
Another good win for Union and despite staying bottom of the relegation table there is a sense that the perhaps the inevitable is now avoidable. The win was gifted in some ways by some slack Tigre defending, the opening goal coming 5 minutes before the break when Javier Malagueño played a ludicrous pass across his own penalty box. Mariano Echeverria was unable to control it and Andres Franzoia took full advantage, rounding the goalkeeper and passing the ball into the net. Not long after the break it was 2 when Franzoia attempted to put strike partner, Pablo Magnin through. The pass was cut out by Tigre keeper, Javier Garcia who had rushed out of his area to illegally handle the ball, as the ref played advantage the ball came back to Franzoia who chipped the ball into the empty net. Minutes later, Tigre grabbed a goal back from the penalty spot, converted by Matias Perez Garcia but they were unable to find an equiliser and Union clung on for a crucial 3 points.
