Riquelme celebrates his wonderful strike sending Boca into the Quarter finals and further cementing his hero status

The last 16 of the Copa Libertadores saw two Argentine sides progress to the Quarter Finals where they will meet each other, guaranteeing one semi finalist. Boca Juniors travelled to Brasil holding onto a slender 1 goal advantage to the play Corinthians, the site where they lost in the final of last year’s competition. There was to be no repeat as Juan Roman Riquelme’s long range stunner was enough to earn a draw and move on to their clash with Newell’s Old Boys. Newell’s were trailing after their first leg with Velez Sarsfield but a 2-1 win in Liniers, with goals from Milton Casco and Ignacio Scocco were enough to turn this tie. Sadly, Tigre could not join them in the next phase, they travelled to Paraguay earlier today defending a 2-1 lead from the first leg but missing key man, Ruben Botta, who damaged knee ligaments in the first game, they went down by two goals to nil. ALL THE GOALS HERE…..

VELEZ SARSFIELD  1 – 2  NEWELL’S OLD BOYS

CORINTHIANS  1 – 1  BOCA JUNIORS

OLIMPIA  2 – 0  TIGRE
