Sunday’s big game was at El Monumental where River Plate produced their best performance in some time to see off San Lorenzo. Teo Gutierrez finished a wonderful team move for the only goal of the game but in truth, if River and Teo in particular were more ruthless in front of goal, the margin of victory could have been far greater. Earlier, Quilmes earned their first win of the season over Tigre in a match that was never going to be a goalfest. Sebastian Romero’s fiercely struck shot gave Caruso Lombardi his first win as manager and an important 3 points, but there will need to be plenty more if Quilmes are to avoid the drop. Olimpo also picked up a crucial victory in Bahia Blanca against Lanús despite playing most of the match with 10 men after Pablo Lugüercio’s careless sending off. Late goals from Ivan Furios and Adolfo Valencia were enough to see off a tired looking Lanús side, who so far are struggling with the added commitment of the Copa Libertadores. Lastly, Newell’s Old Boys travelled to La Plata to face Estudiantes and the combination of a resolute home side and a lethargic Newell’s side resulted in a goalless draw. WATCH ALL THE ACTION….
Olimpo 2 – 0 Lanús
Quilmes 1 – 0 Tigre
River Plate 1 – 0 San Lorenzo
Estudiantes 0 – 0 Newell’s Old Boys
