River Plate’s Colombians put River into second

River Plate deservedly defeated Atletico Rafaela in El Monumental to go second, ahead of their huge top of table clash with Estudiantes on Wednesday. Second half goals from Carlos Carbonero and Teó Gutiérrez helped Ramon Diaz’s side to another home win although Diaz did his best to add a dash of controversy by thanking the barra bravas for their support at full time. Earlier, Arsenal continued their utterly dreadful domestic form with another defeat, this time losing 2-0 in La Plata to Gimnasia. Maxi Meza continued his fine run to score both goals and inflict a fifth straight away defeat for Arsenal. Newell’s Old Boys bounced back from their Libertadores exit and coach, Alfredo Berti’s resignation to win in Mendoza, thanks to Alexis Castro’s goal against his former side, cranking up the pressure on Godoy Cruz down at the bottom. Finally, Boca Juniors travelled to Santa Fé to face Colón and predictably a clash between the tightest defence in the league and a Riquelme-less Boca ended goalless. WATCH ALL THE ACTION HERE….

Gimnasia La Plata  2 – 0  Arsenal de Sarandí

Godoy Cruz  0 – 1  Newell’s Old Boys

River Plate  2 – 0  Atletico Rafaela

Colón  0 – 0  Boca Juniors
