With 50 days to go until the start of the World Cup, Alejandro Sabella seems to have a pretty clear idea of the 23-man squad that will travel to their camp in Vespasiano, on the outskirts of Belo Horizonte.
While many international managers are still tinkering with formations and testing players in friendlies, there are few surprises expected when Sabella names his final squad.
One headache that has presented itself is the injury to Fernando Gago, who despite poor club form with Boca Juniors, has been influential in Sabella’s formation during qualification. The knee injury sustained by Gago last week threatens to keep him out of the World Cup and so the conundrum is, who would be best suited to replace him.
This issue in the midfield, in addition to the last couple of available places in the often criticized defense, appears to be the only question marks that remain for Sabella.
“La Albiceleste” have a couple of friendlies before their first game against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 15th so let’s take a look at the likely 23-man squad that will be in Brazil tasked with bringing the trophy back to Buenos Aires.
