With just 2 rounds remaining and a host of teams still in contention for the final promotion spot, Independiente claimed a huge victory yesterday in the Estadio Libertadores de América. With rivals, Instituto having lost away to Ferro Carril Oeste earlier in the day, El Rojo knew that victory over title chasing, Defensa y Justicia would put them back in the automatic promotion places. Things didn’t start well with Claudio Guerra putting the visitors in front but a superbly guided volley from Matías Pisano got Independiente back on level terms. Referee, Silvio Trucco provided a helping hand minutes later as he showed Guerra a second yellow card but despite their numerical advantage it took until the 72nd minute for Independiente to take the lead, Sergio Ojeda eventually managing to head the ball into the back of the net. A heated injury time period saw three further red cards but Independiente held on to a significant victory. Huracán remain just behind but the match against Instituto will be decisive in the race for third. WATCH ALL THE GOALS….
