Di María’s Paris St Germain/Man Utd transfer saga continues

Most recently it has appeared that Manchester United were out of the running for Ángel Di María, given the players requirement for Champions League football and the astronomical fee involved. However, Paris St Germain’s transfer has now hit a snag as UEFA FFP regulations have halted any progress for the time being.

Further reports from Europe are adding more detail to this already protracted transfer and the final destination is still completely unknown.

Spanish newspapers are claiming that Di Maríá requested a new contract prior to the World Cup following his impressive performances at the end of the season and a Man of the Match display in the Champions League Final. Real Madrid were happy to discuss this but baulked at the demand to double his current salary to €9 million a year and make him one of the club’s top earners.

In spite of Carlo Ancelotti’s wishes to keep Di María at the club the board were not willing to sanction such a deal, particularly in light of any possible deal for James Rodriguez.

Paris St Germain stepped in and are reportedly willing to meet such demands but the €60 million transfer fee is a problem. French newspaper, L’Equipe are said that UEFA Financial Fair Play means that Paris St Germain are unable to pay any fees following the signing of David Luiz until sales are made.

This is currently holding both this transfer for Di María and Ivorian right back, Serge Aurier.

Paris are now looking to off-load a number of players to finance such moves but as the move stalls there is now talk of Manchester United re-entering the race. Conflicting reports have suggested that Di María would in fact favour a move to the Premier League but Real would need to lower their fee for any deal to be made.

There are still weeks left in the transfer window so this could go on for a long time yet but it would seem that Di María has played his last game for Real Madrid. Where he ends up is still unknown.

  1. Would somebody please buy Di Maria and give him to PSG. The last thing we need is that clown at Old Trafford.

    • Don’t really understand your animosity towards Di María. The fee being discussed is huge but he is a very good player and would add a great deal to Man Utd’s midfield in my opinion

  2. let united create their di maria in januzaj and Nani and stop meaningless extravagancy in signing Di Maria

    • In fairness, I think Di Maria is a very different player to those two. His unreal workrate is what enables him to play so well in a midfield three as well as on the wing. I think it is safe to say that that isn’t the case with Nani! I also think Van Gaal would seem him as one of the three, in his 5-3-2 with Shaw providing the width on the left

  3. let united create their di maria in januzaj and Nani and stop meaningless extravagancy in signing Di Maria!!!
