Paris St Germain have pulled out of a deal for Real Madrid midfielder, Angel Di María deeming the Argentina international “too expensive.” President Nasser Al-Khelaifi has confirmed that his side will no longer be pursuing Di María which would leave the door open for Manchester United or Monaco.
Al-Khelaifi told reporters, “it is true that we have held talks with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez but he is too expensive for us. We have stopped negotiations.”
The negotiations have been on-going given the financial issues that Paris St Germain have found themselves in after several transfer windows spending vast sums of money. Financial Fair Play dictates that they are unable to spend more without selling and this made any potential deal more complicated.
Comments from Zlatan Ibrahimovic perhaps have not helped a deal, with the Swedish star saying: “I do not know if we need to Di Maria.”
This deal is now dead in the water and it remains to be seen if another club will test Real Madrid with an offer. Manchester United and Monaco are the two sides that are still linked to the 26-year-old but it may prove too much for them too.
Paris St Germain’s potential move would have made Di María the most expensive Argentine in history and although there are plenty of interested parties in El Fideo, whether they will part with the best part of €60 million is another question.
