Man Utd on alert as Di María wants out of Madrid despite pleas of teammates

Manchester United’s on-going pursuit of Argentina international, Ángel Di María was given a boost yesterday as Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that the 26-year-old wants to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. Meanwhile, Spanish newspaper, Marca claims Di María will remain in Madrid after Cristiano Ronaldo and the players begged the club not to sell one of the club’s most popilar figures.

It will be a relief to all involved once this transfer saga is complete but Carlo Ancelotti’s comments at his press conference yesterday suggest that a conclusion maybe nearer than first thought.

The 55-year-old Italian told reporters: “The player has requested a transfer this summer. He rejected the club’s offer to stay at Madrid, so we are looking for a solution,”

“We will find a solution for Di Maria before the end of the transfer window, but he remains a Madrid player for now. We are in a situation that the player has to fix himself.

“I’m surprised that it seems as if we are not all in agreement about the situation, but this is not the case. We are all on the same line here. If Di Maria cannot find a solution for his future, he will stay here. We embrace him and he can continue to work here. There’s no problem.

“Di Maria could start in the second leg of the Supercopa de Espana against Atletico, like all the players who are available.”

The solution, judging by the numerous reports over the past couple of months, is that someone offers Madrid in the region of £50 million. Paris St Germain have publically pulled out of the race and so it remains to be seen whether Manchester United will now formally make a move.

In spite of this news, Spanish newspaper, Marca has reported that former Manchester United player, Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos have held talks with Real president, Florentino Perez, to urge him not to sanction the sale.

Di María is apparently a popular player in the dressing room and his performances, particularly at the end of last season, highlighted his importance to the side.

Selling Mesut Ozil last summer was not a popular decision with the fans but the sale of Di María could create problems both on and off the field according to these reports in Spain.
