After heavy defeats last weekend both Avellaneda clubs needed a boost ahead of Sunday’s clásico and although they both left it late, Independiente and Racing both earned morale boosting victories on Tuesday night. Independiente trailed Olimpo after Jonathan Blanco’s penalty until the 88th minute but goals from Sebastian Penco and Federico Mancuello gave El Rojo an important 3 points. Racing Club then hosted Arsenal in Avellaneda and also took some momentum into Sunday, despite being thoroughly deserved it took a 87th minute penalty from Diego Milito to make the crucial breakthrough. Earlier in the day, Belgrano and Gimnasia played out a pretty non-eventful goalless draw.
