Despite completing a £16 million transfer to Manchester United 11 days ago, Argentina international, Marcos Rojo is still waiting to be granted a visa as immigration officials review documents relating to a row with a neighbour in Argentina back in 2010. The 24-year-old is still supposedly awaiting trial and so the process has been delayed.

It has initially been thought that any delay over the deal was with the FA and the issue with third-party ownership, given the complications with the transfer between Sporting Lisbon and management group, Doyen.

However, the BBC are reporting that this is not a concern and the FA have actually completed their transfer certificate and associated paperwork.

The issue it transpires is with Rojo being granted a visa to work in the UK as the defender entered the UK for his medical and to sign the deal with Manchester United under a tourist visa.

The current immigration law regarding those entering the UK to work states that they enter the country with a working visa and so Rojo needed to leave the country and go to Madrid in order to obtain this from the embassy.

Whilst applying for this, a row with a neighbour that Rojo was arrested over back in 2010 has come to light and so immigration officials are reviewing this before granting the visa.

The BBC has interviewed Rojo’s lawyer, Fernando Burlando to find out more on this matter: Burlando, told the BBC in Argentina his client had been indicted and was awaiting trial.

He said they expected to “resolve” the issue before the Argentina international, who played in the World Cup final, entered a plea.

However, he added that if Rojo were to be found guilty after a trial, the likelihood would be that he would be placed on probation and ordered to undertake community work, which would not have to be carried out in his homeland.

Burlando did stress that this would not have any impact on Rojo’s transfer, however it is hugely frustrating for Manchester United.

Still waiting for the first win of the season, Rojo has now missed three matches since signing although manager Louis van Gaal remains confident that the Argentine will be available for the match against QPR on Spetember 14th.
