Legendary Argentine striker, Mario Kempes is to travel to the United States to undergo triple bypass surgery on Tuesday. The 60-year-old World Cup winner, who works as a commentator for ESPN, requires the heart operation after doctors discovered that his arteries were 80% blocked.
Kempes told Cadena 3 in his native Córdoba: “When having some checks done, doctors found that I have very clogged arteries, especially on the right side.”
“They will do a triple bypass because the arteries are 80% blocked and the doctors are amazed and do not understand how I could live like this. They also believe that at some point I must have had a heart attack but I do no know what this is. I have never felt anything.”
El Matador is of course best known for his two goals in the 1978 World Cup Final helping Argentina to lift the trophy for the first time but he is also a club legend at Valencia.
