It is now five matches without a win for Vélez Sarsfield and all the promise from their opening rounds has disappeared along with the hope that they might be able to provide competition for River. Last night in La Plata, Estudiantes became the latest side to exploit the weaknesses of José Flores’ side, winning 3-2. Lucas Pratto had given Vélez a first half lead from the penalty spot but goals from Guido Carrillo, Román Martínez and Matías Aguirregaray gave Mauricio Pellegrino’s side all three points. Fabián Cubero did manage to bundle in an injury time consolation but Vélez’s wretched run of form continued.
