Newell’s Old Boys’ unbeaten start to the season was ended abruptly in Rosario last night as Banfield claimed an impressive 3-0 victory over their well-below par hosts. Ricardo Noir’s fiercely struck shot from outside the box gave Almeyda’s side the opener before Walter Erviti headed in a second before half time. Maxi Rodriguez missed the chance from the penalty spot to pull one back and Ecuadorian, Juan Cazares added a third to leave River Plate as they only remaining unbeaten side, four points clear at the top. Earlier, Arsenal swept aside Godoy Cruz in a first half blitz. A stupendous Brahian Alemán freekick gave the home side the lead and it was shortly followed by an Emilio Zelaya brace which all but ended the contest in little over half an hour.
