Gimnasia may have the second best defensive record in the Primera but they have found this season hard going as a result of goals at the other end being hard to come by. However, they had no such trouble in La Plata on Friday evening as they eased past bottom of the table, Quilmes. Two instinctive close range finishes from Pablo Vegetti either side of half time had Gimnasia firmly in control before Lucas Licht added a third from the penalty spot.

Later in the evening, Vélez returned to winning ways after four matches with a 2-0 victory over Defensa y Justicia in Florencio Varela. As is so often the case with Vélez, Lucas Pratto proved to be decisive as the striker added another two to his season tally with strikes either side of the break. The first a wonderfully measured curling strike from the edge of the box and the second a cool and effective finish after being put through on goal with five minutes remaining.

Gimnasia  3 – 0  Quilmes

Defensa y Justicia  0 – 2  Vélez Sarsfield
