Manchester City are hoping to pip Italian sides to the signature of Estudiantes, 20-year-old midfielder, Joaquín Correa according to reports in Italy. Inter Milan and Sampdoria had been in pole position for the youngster but it is understood that City will now bid around £8 milion to complete a January deal.
Interestingly, the same reports suggest that Sampdoria may yet benefit from the deal given that City would be looking to immediately loan out the playmaker and the Serie A side would be keen to take him on a temporary basis.
The 20-year-old has already established himself as one of Estudiantes’ key players and given his potential, it is little surprise that so many European clubs are taking an interest.
The attacking midfield player has the ability to glide past defenders and possesses an excellent right foot, which is capable of scoring from distance. Correa provided a wonderful example of this with an absolute rocket against Peñarol in this year’s Copa Sudamericana.
Just as they did earlier in the year when they signed Bruno Zuculini from Racing, Manchester City are looking to ensure their long term success by capturing these talented youngsters of huge potential. Correa certainly falls into this bracket and even at around £8 million it could prove to be a bargain.
