The AFA were certainly kind to Vélez when they released the fixtures for this season and for the second week in a row El Fortín had too much for one of the newly promoted sides in Liniers. The visitors this time were Crucero del Norte but the result was the same as that of Aldosivi last Friday. Ariel Cabral’s looping header gave Vélez the deserved lead minutes after half time and Yamil Asad’s fine burst from midfield and finish ensured the points ten minutes from time. Nicolás Martínez managed a late consolation with a wonderful free kick but the bus company boys could not snatch an equaliser.
San Martín produced another decent performance to earn themselves a second point on their return to the Primera after battling to a 1-1 draw with Gimnasia in San Juan. Maxi Meza had given the visitors a first half lead with a powerful, close range finish but San Martín exhibited the type of resolve needed to stay in the top flight. After the break, Sergio Paz awarded them a penalty after Marcos Figueroa had been tugged in the box and in the process showed Oliver Benítez a second yellow. Renzo Vera tucked away the spotkick but they were unable to make their numerical advantage count. Juan Mattia was sent off late on to level the numbers and Gimnasia nearly snatched it with Maxi Meza having a second goal chalked off for offside and Pablo Vergetti hitting the post.
Vélez Sarsfield 2 – 1 Crucero del Norte
