Mauro Matos’ simple goal two minutes after half time gave San Lorenzo a deserved victory over Nueva Chicago and the third straight win saw El Ciclón rise to second in the table. After a disappointing Transición, five wins from six suggests that Edgardo Bauza’s side are back.
Aldosivi hosting fellow newly promoted side, Unión may not have been one of the fixtures that leapt out as one to watch but it undoubtedly ended up being one of the matches of the sixth round. It was the visitors that started quickly in Mar del Plata with Enrique Triverio putting them in front after just three minutes and when Víctor Malcorra added a second shortly after it appeared that Unión’s lively attack would be too much for Aldosivi. Crucially the home side were given a route back into the match just before half time when Diego Villar was judged to have handled in the penalty area allowing Gastón Díaz to pull one back from the penalty spot. Two quick-fire goals from Roger Martínez and Pablo Lugüercio midway through the second half saw Aldosivi complete their unlikely comeback but Malcorra curled in a superb free-kick to level for Unión and share the points.
And to provide some balance Temperley and Olimpo produced one of the worst matches of the round. A goalless draw is of little use to either side as they remain bogged down in the Primera basement.
