Friday: Central slip up against Colón and Sarmiento thrash Quilmes (VIDEO)

Eduardo Coudet has enjoyed a dream start to management as his Rosario Central side won their first five matches to sit top of the Primera división but following last weekend’s draw with struggling Atlético Rafaela he would have hoped for a reaction. Instead the league leaders produced another lacklustre performance against fellow Santa Fe residents, Colón, who arrived at the Gigante de Arroyito winless and in twenty-seventh place. Braian Romero fired the visitors into an early lead and although Marco Ruben equalised just minutes later from the penalty spot, Central did nothing to deserve anything more than a point. It has still been an excellent start to the season but if San Lorenzo win on Saturday then Central will be knocked off top spot.

Earlier on Friday, Sarmiento recorded back-to-back victories and heaped pressure on Quilmes manager Julio César Falcioni. Quilmes were perhaps the weakest Primera side in the Transición but it is still inexcusable to be defeated by four goals at home by one of the ten newly promoted sides. Tobías Figueroa headed the visitors in front after just two minutes and shortly before half time defender, Daniel Delgado added a second. Seventeen seconds after the break, Gervasio Nuñez slotted in a third from an acute angle and with ten minutes remaining, the pacy winger completed the rout with his second of the match. Regardless of how poor Quilmes are, it is a fantastic result for Sarmiento, who like Unión appear to have enough of a goal threat in the side to comfortably avoid the drop.

Quilmes  0 – 4  Sarmiento

Rosario Central  1 – 1  Colón
