Any of Vélez’s early season optimism probably disappeared a couple of weeks back but on Saturday afternoon Gimnasia became the latest side to stick the boot in a little more. Back-to-back wins for Pedro Troglio’s side have seen the pressure lift off them but it is well and truly back on El Fortín. Gimnasia’s winner came five minutes from time in slightly fortuitous circumstances after Alan Aguerre smothered Rodrigo Contreras’ volley only for the ball to bounce back off the substitute and into the net.

Later in Córdoba, Belgrano got the three points needed to join Rosario Central for the temporary lead of the championship but it wasn’t as convincing as was perhaps expected over Crucero del Norte. Mauro Obolo’s diving header on the brink of half time proved to be enough as Crucero clearly set up to frustrate rather than attack. Belgrano’s fine start to 2015 goes on and it is now five straight wins.
