Martín Palermo might have been relieved from his duties but there was no up-turn in Arsenal’s fortunes on Monday night. Fellow strugglers Quilmes were the visitors to the Estadio Julio Humberto Grondona and with the match deep into injury time a dreadfully mistimed challenge by Dany Valencia on Alexis Castro gave Los Cerveceros a chance to take all three points from the penalty spot. Claudio Bieler gratefully converted the spot kick and handed Arsenal a seventh league defeat leaving them in 29th position.

Monday’s two other matches were all newly promoted affairs and were suitably tight. Colón became the latest side to leave Garupá frustrated as Crucero del Norte ground out a third goalless draw at home and later in Temperley, Leandro Martínez’s close range finish was just enough to give San Martín victory.

Arsenal de Sarandí  0 – 1  Quilmes

Crucero del Norte  0 – 0  Colón

Temperley  0 – 1  San Martín
