Following the bitter disappointment of exiting the Copa Libertadores, Racing were in need of a boost and in Mar del Plata on Sunday afternoon they got that. Marcos Acuña slotted La Academia in front after only two minutes and when Luciano Lollo’s towering header doubled the lead after half an hour it appeared it would be a comfortable afternoon for Diego Cocca’s side. Gastón Díaz’s superb free-kick on the brink of half time ensured that it was a little more difficult and Aldosivi pushed after the break for an equaliser. Despite coming close, Sebastián Saja and his defence kept them out and Racing celebrated a hard-fought three points.
In San Juan, Defensa y Justicia blew a two-goal lead as San Martín staged a second half comeback to salvage a point. Carlos Matheu and Julio Rodríguez looked to have given El Halcon a first win in nine but an own goal by Juan Tejera and a close range tap-in by Marcos Figueroa gave the home side a share of the points.
Finally in La Plata, Colón frustrated Estudiantes and with the help of a good goalkeeping performance by Jorge Broun El Pincha were held to a goalless draw.
