The Copa Argentina is really starting to take shape now as the lineup for the round of 16 is almost complete after victories on Friday night for Avellaneda rivals, Independiente and Racing. Independiente did just enough to see off Deportivo Español in Lanús thanks to Diego Vera’s second half header and although El Rojo struggled to make their superiority count, their Primera B Metropolitana opposition rarely threatened.

Racing Club joined their bitter enemies in the last 16 after a 2-1 victory against fellow Primera side, Tigre in San Juan. Gustavo Bou illustrated his striking instinct once again with a smart near-post finish to give Racing the lead after just seven minutes but it lasted just a couple of minutes as Ernesto Goñi rifled in an equaliser from a long throw into the box. Leandro Grimi scrambled Racing back in front after Tigre failed to clear a corner and that proved to be the winner meaning La Academia will face either Atlanta or Comunicaciones in the next round.
