Walter Coyette’s Argentina under-15 side continued their impressive start to the South American championship with a 3-1 victory over Paraguay on Wednesday afternoon. Captain Facundo Colidio scored a brace, taking his tally to four for the tournament and Vélez midfielder, Benjamín Garre added a third. Paraguay did manage a late consolation and in the process scored the first goal that Los Pibes have conceded but it is three wins from three for Argentina and a place in the final group stage has now been confirmed.

Another bright opening from Argentina had seen Colidio and the busy Gustavo Córdoba already threaten when the deadlock was eventually broken on the half hour mark. The two combined for the opener after Córdoba swung in a free-kick and Colidio superbly flicked the ball off the top of his head and into the far corner.

Captain Colidio turned provider before the break when he burst down the left and pulled the ball back for Vélez youngster Benjamín Garré to poke in the second and although Paraguay grew into the game after the break it was Argentina that scored next. Córdoba split open the Guaraní defence with a wonderful through ball and Colidio ran clear to round the goalkeeper and slide in the third of the afternoon and his fourth of the tournament.

With fifteen minutes remaining Paraguay were given a chance to pull one back from the penalty spot but Boca Juniors’ goalkeeper, Manuel Roffo palmed the poorly placed effort away to maintain his unblemished record in the competition. Argentina were a minute away from a third 3-0 victory but a fiercely struck free-kick from Yair Méndez provided Paraguay with a consolation.

The result means Argentina are the first confirmed team in the semi-final ahead of their final group game against Ecuador tomorrow.

Argentina  3 – 1  Paraguay
