Atlético Tucumán have already guaranteed their place in the Primera for 2016 after lifting the Nacional B title and we are now down to the final two to see who will be joining them. Both first legs had ended in score draws but on Wednesday night, Santamarina were victorious in Buenos Aires against Ferro and later in Paraná, Patronato deservedly defeated Instituto to claim their place in the playoff final.
Ferro’s failure came down to two penalty incidents in the first half of their second leg against Santamarina. The visitors led midway through the first half when Fernando Telechea successfully tucked away his spotkick but in the final action of the half, Ferro had a chance of their own to draw level only for Luís Salmerón to blaze his effort high of the bar. This proved to be the difference until the 91st minute when Michael Hoyos broke and smashed in Santamarina’s second.
Patronato finished the regular season a full 20 points ahead of Instituto but it counted for nothing after a first leg that had ended 1-1 and it was even less significant when Damián Schmidt headed the visitors into an early lead. Their lead however lasted just minutes when Carlos Quintana brought the hosts level and five minutes later Diego Jara put them in front. It stayed that way until the 86th minute when Leandro Becerra made sure of victory on the break and set up a Patronate – Santamarina final.
Ferro Carril Oeste 0 – 2 Santamarina (AGG 2-4)
Patronato 3 – 1 Instituto (AGG 4-2)
