Walter Coyette could not have asked for much more from his Argentina under-15 side after Los Pibes recorded a fourth straight victory to top Group A in the South American championships. Ecuador became the latest side to fall to the Argentine title hopefuls and La Albiceleste once again hit three goals en route to a flawless group stage.
Ecuador threatened during the first half and perhaps felt that they deserved to lead but in stoppage time, Facundo Colidio held the ball up wonderfully and laid it back for Gustavo Córdoba to smash Argentina in front.
The match remained an event contest until the 75th minute when Javier Obando’s shot took a huge deflection and looped into the net to double the lead.
Even two down, Ecuador looked the more likely goal scorers but with mintues remaining, Argentina notched a third goal, just as they have in the three other group matches. Agustín Almedra’s powerful header from a corner wrapped up victory and while the other sides have a match left in Group A, Argentina are already guaranteed top spot.
This means that Argentina will play the second placed side from Group B in the semi final and that looks likely to be between Brazil and Uruguay.
Argentina 3 – 0 Ecuador
