The announcement before Estudiantes’ second leg against Olimpo that Gabi Milito would be stepping down as coach was something of a surprise given that the 35-year-old has only been in La Plata since April and it would perhaps be harsh to claim that El Pincha underachieved in 2015. Either way, Milito signed off in style as Estudiantes swept Olimpo aside and wrapped up a 5-0 aggregate win.
Gastón Fernández headed the home side in front just before the break and only 30 seconds into the second half Juan Sánchez Miño tapped in a second. Full-back Álvaro Pereira added a third and Ezequiel Cerutti completed the rout on the break.
Milito will now depart La Plata and president Juan Sebastián Verón must search for his second manager. Reserves manager, Nelson Vivas will take temporary charge but the dream is a return of Alejandro Sabella. Pachorra is still available since leaving his post as Argentina coach and given his legendary status at Estudiantes, it would be a phenomenal appointment for Verón.
