Lanús’ promising beginning to 2016 continued on Sunday evening as El Granate came from behind to defeat to Defensa y Justicia and maintain a 100% start to the season. Fabián Bordagaray actually gave the visitors an early lead when he volleyed in an inadvertent knockdown from a Lanús defender but on the stroke of half time, the hosts were level. Exciting young full-back José Luis Gómez crossed and the experienced Pepe Sand nodded in the equaliser from close range. Lanús looked the more likely winners after the break and when Lautaro Acosta was brought down in the box it allowed Sand to convert his second of the match and ensure a valuable three points.
Patronato’s results since their promotion suggest they could provide entertainment but after giving away winning positions to earn a point against San Lorenzo, they shipped three against a depleted Gimnasia side on Sunday to suffer defeat. Matías Garrido scored an early free kick to give the visitors the lead but tiny Franco Niell headed an equaliser midway through the first half. Within 20 seconds of the restart Los Rojinegros found themselves behind when Lorenzo Faravelli tucked away a second but Garrido forced Patronato level again. Another 2-2 draw away from home wouldn’t have been a bad result but Walter Bou outjumped goalkeeper Sebastián Bértoli to head El Lobo to victory.
