After two consecutive goalless draws Independiente were in need of a performance and manager Mauricio Pellegrino got that against an albeit very poor Vélez Sarsfield side. An awful handling error from Fabián Assmann gifted Jorge Ortíz Independiente’s opener after just nine minutes but El Rojo were well worth their lead. Leandro Fernández struck the underside of the crossbar amid a string of other chances and so it was little surprise when Emiliano Rigoni doubled the advantage mintues after half time. After a season lacking creativity, El Rojo had enough opportunities to make this victory even more convincing but Pellegrino knows that he remains under pressure ahead of next weekend’s clásico.
Round eleven’s clásico saw Quilmes travel to Temperley and after an evenly contested hour, the match swung in the hosts favour with the sending off of Damián Malrechauffe. A couple of minutes later and Ariel Cólzera gave the home side the lead with a superbly struck free-kick. Patricio Romero added a second in injury time to end a run of three straight defeats ahead of the two sides meeting again in a week’s time.
