For the second week running, Estudiantes failed to find a way past a resolute defence and with another goalless draw, their hopes of lifting the Transición title may have evaporated. Newell’s Old Boys were good value for a point in La Plata in a game where neither side did quite enough to earn all three points. Perhaps as expected it was El Pincha that carved out the clearer opportunities but Diego Osella has his Newell’s side well drilled already and although goals are still hard to come by it is a fourth clean sheet in a row. If Lanús beat Tigre in Victoria on Monday, the Zone Two title race is over.
In Mar del Plata, Unión salvaged a deserved point against Aldosivi after falling behind to Sebastián Penco’s first half diving header. El Tiburón started well and took the lead after quarter of an hour thanks to Penco’s fourth of the season but the visitors rallied and grew more into the game as it went on. Probably worthy of an equaliser, it eventually came with around fifteen minutes remaining and it was almost an exact copy of Penco’s opener. Lucas Gamba scampered down the left and his cross was met by the flying forehead of substitute Julio Rodríguez.
Estudiantes 0 – 0 Newell’s Old Boys
Aldosivi 1 – 1 Unión
