Gerardo Martino has named his 35-man preliminary Olympic squad and somewhat surprisingly included Juventus striker Paulo Dybala, despite his claims that the Italian club had not given permission. Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi is also included and although the final squad that will travel to Rio de Janiero will be cut to 18, La Albiceleste appear strong.
Dybala, made headlines earlier this week when he announced that he had hoped to be included in Martino’s Copa América squad given that he wouldn’t be permitted by Juve to go to the Olympics. However, Argentina are hopeful that they can persuade the Bianconeri otherwise and so the 22-year-old forward is included.
Controversial figure Mauro Icardi is also named after being overlooked by Martino and the national team since Alejandro Sabella handed the youngster his debut in 2013.
Argentina’s dangerous attack is completed by Jonathan Calleri, Ángel Correa and Luciano Vietto.
Elsewhere, Manuel Lanzini and Matías Kranevitter are among the midfield options and Martino’s possible over-23 players are Gerónimo Rullo, Mateo Musacchio, Jonathan Maidana, Ramiro Funes Mori and Víctor Cuesta.
