Leandro Desábato headed Estudiantes a draw against Inter Milan after Yuto Nagatomo had given the Serie A side the lead, in what was a poor pre-season friendly that will not live long in the memories of those in attendance.
Inter captain Mauro Icardi was missing amid intense transfer speculation but coach Roberto Mancini insisted that the striker was injured.
“I didn’t field him because he reported feeling some pain in his shoulder this morning. There would have been no point in risking him,” explained the former Manchester City boss.
Inter led after just five minutes when Japanese full back Nagatomo finished off Rodrigo Palacio’s low cross at the back post and the Italians probably had the chances to extend this lead but failed to make the most of some decent openings.
Moments before the break, El Pincha found an equaliser when Leandro Desábato headed in Juan Ignacio Cavallaro’s free kick completely unmarked and it remained 1-1 as the second half decended into an exercise of getting squad players minutes for both sides.
