A deal has reportedly been agreed to sell Marseille to Gérard Lopez, the owner of Formula One team Lotus, and this could pave the way for Marcelo Bielsa to return to the Stade Vélodrome.
The enigmatic 61-year-old was hugely popular with supporters after managing the side for the 2014/15 season but walked following defeat in the opening Ligue 1 match of the season after disagreements with current owner Margarita Louis-Dreyfus.
France Football announced that Lopez’s takeover has already been agreed and will be formally announced this weekend, which could also see Bielsa unveiled as coach.
El Loco still finds himself at the centre of a legal battle with Italian club Lazio after agreeing to take over at the Rome club in July only to resign two later citing a break of promises from the owners.
Simone Inzaghi has since been appointed Lazio boss but the club are said to be attempting to sue Bielsa for breach of contract.
Regardless, it leaves the Argentine coach free to take another post and if this is to be believed then a return to a somewhat troubled Marseille side could be on the cards.
