For 53 minutes it appeared as though Rosario Central may be frustrated once again as Eduardo Coudet’s side appear to have lost their goal-scoring touch but thte home side introduced Giovani Lo Celso and within a minute the impressive youngster created the opener.
Lo Celso’s wonderful pass found Marco Ruben and although the usually deadly striker’s shot was blocked the ball eventually fell to Walter Montoya, who hammered in the rebound.
The goal suddenly brought the game to life and within minutes Central doubled their lead. Lo Celso picked out Washington Camacho in space but some 30 yards from goal and the recent signing smashed the ball into the top corner leaving Federico Costa no chance.
However, the action didn’t stop there – Gonzalo Espinoza was sent off for the visitors before Walter Montoya and Paulo Ferrari reduced Central to nine after both were shown second yellow cards.
Into stoppage time with ten against nine, Patronato pulled a goal back thanks to a superb bicycle-kick from Nicolás Bertochi but before the visitors could push for an equaliser, Fernando Telechea was given his marching orders to finish the game nine against nine.
Down in Mar del Plata, Banfield bounced back from the disappointment of their Copa Sudamericana exit with a 3-1 win over Aldosivi.
Julio César Falcioni’s return has so far not been the success that the club had hoped as El Taladro look seriously shot of goals but on Saturday afternoon, they had no such trouble against a worryingly poor Aldosivi side.
Nicolás Bertolo gave the visitors the lead after half an hour when Gonzalo Prosperi’s cross from the right found its way to the back post where the 30-year-old, in acres of space, had time to skip around Matías Vega and roll the ball into the net.
Sebastián Penco equalised with a powerful header before half time but after the break it was all Banfield.
Santiago Silva made amends for his penalty miss in midweek to put the visitors back in front when he nodded in Alexís Soto’s cross and shortly after the impressive Walter Erviti wrapped up all three points.
El Tiburón ended the game with nine men after Alan Alegre and Cristian Llama were both sent off but the game had already slipped away from Fernando Quiroz’s struggling side.
