Boca Juniors travelled to Mendoza minus Carlos Tevez but with a vast travelling support for their game against Godoy Cruz and despite the atmosphere that was created Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s side couldn’t come away with three points. After the positive display last weekend in the win over Belgrano it was another poor performance from Boca and after taking a second half lead through Gino Peruzzi, Los Xeneizes allowed El Tomba to level thanks to Javier Correa’s goal on the counter.
Sebastián Méndez will probably take the point after seeing his side go behind but for Barros Schelotto huge question marks remain. Defensively Boca remained suspect and the decision to play Ricardo Centurión centrally, in the absence of Carlos Tevez, failed to bring the best from the former Racing player after an excellent performance last week.
Earlier in the Estadio Monumental Presidente José Fierro, Estudiantes bounced back from the disappointment of their Copa Sudamericana exit to record an excellent away win over Atlético Tucumán and go top of the table.
Carlos Auzqui slotted the visitors in front with a fraction over half an hour on the clock and shortly after half time, the 25-year-old pounced on a wayward pass in the Atlético defence to dash through on goal and drill the ball low past Crisitan Lucchetti.
El Decano remained a real threat and had plenty of chances but could not find a way past Mariano Andujar meaning Nelson Vivas’ side maintained their 100% record.
Scrapping down at the bottom of the descenso table, Temperley salvaged a point from the visit of Arsenal but will perhaps think they should have got more after twice hitting the woodwork.
It was the visitors that led early when Julío César Rodríguez fired in from close range but it lasted only ten minutes before Marcos Figueroa slightly fortuitously slotted the ball under Fernando Pellegrino. El Gasolero pushed for a winner but couldn’t find one and the relegation picture remains as murky as ever.
Atlético Tucumán 0 – 2 Estudiantes
Temperley 1 – 1 Arsenal de Sarandí
Godoy Cruz 1 – 1 Boca Juniors
