Huracán’s appointment of Ricardo Caruso Lombardi was perhaps not the most imaginative of selections but it took just 30 seconds for the colourful coach to celebrate his first goal as El Globo boss. Atlético Tucumán have proved very strong at the Estadio Monumental but despite dominating large parts of the game, El Decano could not prevent Huracán claiming a first win of the season and Caruso making a winning start to his latest Primera job.
Following Fernando Belluschi’s 13-second goal for San Lorenzo earlier in the weekend, Huracán were not far behind on Monday evening. The visitors attacked straight from kick off and Alejandro Romero Gamarra’s low cross was poked past Cristian Luchetti by Luca Sosa with 30 seconds on the clock.
Like any Caruso Lombardi side, Huracán defended doggedly and shortly before half time were rewarded for a moment of genuine quality. Quick one-touch passing between Daniel Montenegro and Romero Gamarra released Diego Mendoza and the now fit again striker slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
The home side enjoyed the vast majority of possession and created far more chances but could not find a way past Marcos Díaz in the Huracán goal.
Three defeats on the bounce now for Atlético Tucumán and a wonderful start for Lombardi, who will be hoping to build on this with Huracán after the international break.
Atlético Tucumán 0 – 2 Huracán
