For his dramatic winner against Queens Park Rangers back in 2012, Sergio Agüero will forever be a Manchester City icon but Saturday’s otherwise disappointing draw with Middlesbrough, saw the Argentine striker notch 150 goals for the Citizens.

No player since Colin Bell in the 1970s has reached the milestone and Agüero can now set his sights firmly on the club’s all-time leading scorer, Eric Brook, who struck 178 goals between 1928 and 1940.

With plenty to choose from we take a look at 20 important goals and moments since Kun arrived in Manchester.

1 – Debut delight against Swansea

City’s wealthy owners were determined to bring success to the Etihad and shelled out €45 million for Sergio Agüero in the summer of 2011. The former Atlético Madrid striker came on for his debut against Swansea in the 59th minute scoring twice and creating another for David Silva in a convincing 4-0 win. The first a close range tap-in and the second a fierce long range effort, both of which the City fans would see plenty more of.

2 – Solo effort in Spurs thrashing

Agüero’s next goal came in the 5-1 win away to Spurs and if his debut had made a mark on the supporters, his effort against Spurs got them really excited. Pace got him in behind, power held off Matthew Dawson and precision finishing blasted the ball past Brad Friedel.

3 – A first hat-trick

In City’s next game, Agüero hit his first hat-trick with Wigan the unlucky victims simply unable to contain the former Independiente prodigy and his accomplice, David Silva.

4 – A part in City’s famous 6-1 win over United

Mario Balotelli stole the headlines in one of City’s finest moments but Agüero marked his first derby with a goal. A wonderfully worked move ended with Kun sweeping in Micah Ricards low cross.

5 – Tevez and Agüero combine

With City in the running for a first league title since 1968, Roberto Mancini’s side thrashed Norwich 6-1 at Carrow Road. Agüero scored twice – the first a powerful finish as he ran onto Carlos Tevez’s backheel and the second a moment of individual brilliance.

6 – The moment

Not since Michael Thomas’ winner at Anfield in 1989 to clinch the title for Arsenal had English football seen such a dramatic title deciding moment. City drawing with Queens Park Rangers needed a win to lift the Premier League trophy and in 94th minute, Agüero found a yard of space and ‘AGUEROOOOOOOOOOOO.’

7 – Punishes Pepe Reina

Agüero’s follow-up season was not as successful as his debut and City ultimately relinquish the title but there were still a number of highlight. The remarkable goal to steal the ball ahead of Pepe Reine and somehow squeeze the ball in from the tighest of angles during the 2-2 draw with Liverpool was one of the picks.

8 – Another derby goal

Manchester United may have wrestled the title back in the 2012/13 season but Agüero scored a memorable goal in April as City won 2-1 at Old Trafford. Dashing across the penalty area, three United defenders are unable to get a foot in before the ball is smashed past David De Gea and into the roof of the net.

9 – FA Cup semi final header

Just as the Premier League season ended in disappointment, City were shocked by Wigan in the FA Cup final but prior to that Agüero’s splendid header had given City victory over Chelsea and ensured a return to Wembley.

10 – Thunderous left footed strike

Despite this coming in one of City’s early season losses, Agüero’s goal away to Chelsea warrants inclusion. Branislav Ivanovic perhaps thinks there is little danger with the Argentine being on his left side and still someway from goal but the shot is past Petr Cech before the goalkeeper even reacts.

11 – Vital goal away to Everton

In need of a win to maintain their title challenge, City trailed Everton at Goodison Park before Agüero ran onto Yaya Toure’s pass and drilled a low shot past Tim Howard to equalise before running out 3-2 winners.

12 – A quartet of goals against Spurs

On 18 October 2014, Agüero scored all four of City’s goals in a 4–1 home win over Tottenham.

13 – Control and finish against QPR

City struggled away to Queens Park Rangers in November 2014 but Agüero ensured a draw with two goals. The home side appealed for hand ball after the first but it displayed supreme technique and control – a long ball upfield was killed and then after twisting inside a defender the ball was helped past Rob Green.

14 – Bayern Munich hat-trick

The Champions League group stage brought Bayern Munich to the Etihad and a special night saw Agüero score a hat-trick in a memorable 3-2 win over one of Europe’s finest.

15 – Net burster

Many teams try and prevent Agüero getting space inside the penalty area but against Sunderland in December 2014, he showed what a powerful shot he has. Poking the ball through a defender’s legs, Agüero let rip from the edge of the box and almost took the net off.

16 – City’s 100 Club

The defeat to Manchester United in April was a blow to any title hopes but Agüero’s brace did bring up 100 goals for City.

17 – Five against Newcastle

Four against Spurs the season before, Agüero went one better the following year when Newcastle visited the Etihad. The later-to-be relegated side were unable to contain City and Kun tucked away five in a 6-1 demolition.

18 – Solo special

Away to Norwich in the FA Cup, Agüero danced through the defence before poking the ball past John Ruddy.

19 – Chelsea hat-trick

On 16 April 2016, Agüero scored a hat-trick in a 3–0 win at Chelsea. He became the third visiting player to score a Premier League hat-trick at Stamford Bridge, and the fifth player to have three 20-goal seasons in the league.

20 – 150

The close range finish against Middlesbrough was typical of Agüero although he admitted it was a game that he should have scored more in. There is little doubting that there will be plenty more before his promised return to Independiente.
