Juan Sebastián Verón put pen to paper on his highly anticipated playing return with Estudiantes on Wednesday morning.
The club president had already confirmed that he would be participating in the pre-season Florida Cup tournament in January having joined Nelson Vivas’ squad for training and has now made it official with an 18-month deal.
The 41-year-old had vowed that if 65% of the boxes at the new stadium were bought, he would return for Estudiantes’ Copa Libertadores campaign in 2017. With the target met, Verón has kept to his word and is getting ready for a return to action two years after his retirement.
La Brujita will earn a minimum salary that will be donated back into the club for further development.

As club president, Verón is currently overseeing a period of relative success at the club with a place back in the continent’s biggest cup competition and El Pincha also riding high in the league. However, after winning the presidential election in October 2014, most assumed that a return of La Brujita, the midfield maestro, had passed.
Verón will be 42 in March just as the Copa Libertadores group stages are getting underway but manager Nelson Vivas has already discussed the role that the former Argentina international could play.
“I see him playing behind the forward in our 4-2-3-1, dropping back to the midfield line and lending his experience. Due to his personality he will always give a lot more than what we ask of him.”
