Amid financial players and wantaway players, Banfield (like a number of Primera clubs) haven’t had the easiest of preseasons but as a nice distraction, Julio César Falcioni’s side were still able to enjoy a comfortable victory over Gimnasia in Mar del Plata.
All the talk over the last weeks has been surrounding Santiago Silva and Walter Erviti both informing the club that they would be leaving but El Taladro showed early signs of life after the two key veterans.
Gimnasia actually took a half time lead thanks to Pablo Vegetti’s header and the referee not spotting a foul on Mauricio Asenjo in the build up but it was all El Taladro after the break.
The increasingly impressive Emanuel Cecchini rifled in from long range to pull Banfield level before Mauricio Romero was unfortunate to see the ball bounce off him and into his own net.
Brian Sarmiento extended the lead with a superbly struck free kick and Daniel Imperiale compounded El Lobo’s misery with a second horrendous own goal.
Banfield 4 – 1 Gimnasia
