Despite a recent scouting trip to Europe and plenty of talk surrounding possible new faces Edgardo Bauza has named a familiar looking Argentina squad for this month’s crucial World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia.
The Argentine Football Association have been more concerned with the state of domestic football but on Friday released the 26-man list of players that have been called up.
As promised Gonzalo Higuaín and Lucas Pratto remain Bauza’s first choices in the role of centre-forward meaning no place for Mauro Icardi but there are also call-ups for Sergio Agüero, Paulo Dybala, Ángel Di María, Ángel Correa, Marcos Acuña and Ezequiel Lavezzi alongside Lionel Messi in the forward positions.
Enzo Pérez and Guido Pizarro return as further midfield options with Javier Mascherano and Lucas Biglia one yellow card away from suspension and in defence Facundo Roncaglia and Juliio Buffarini provide cover.
Argentina face Chile in the Estadio Monumental on Thursday March 23rd followed by Bolivia at the Estadio Hernando Siles on the 28th.
