History had already been made by Atlético Tucumán simply reaching the Copa Libertadores group stage but on Wednesday evening, El Decano could, and perhaps should, have earned a debut win over Brazilian league champions Palmeiras.

The visitors had Vitor Hugo sent off for a second yellow card after only 20 minutes and Atlético could sense an opportunity.

The impressive Fernando Zampedri rejected Chinese advances for these nights and his decision was justified when he flicked the home side ahead against the ten men of Palmeiras.

A poorly defended set-piece allowed Keno to bundle in an equaliser from close range before the break and while Pablo Lavallén’s side enjoyed the majority of possession from then on, they were unable to find a winner.

A trip to Peñarol is up next for El Decano, who will be looking for a response after their thrashing against Jorge Wilstermann.
