Arsenal remain just above the relegation zone for now but Monday’s defeat in Sarandí to bottom of the table, Atlético de Rafaela was another blow to their survival hopes. With one will all season, Humberto Grondona arrived over the summer and has now overseen two further defeats with no sign of improvement.
For Atlético it is already perhaps a little too late but that didn’t stop Gabriel Gudiño finishing off a fine passing move just after the half hour mark to give the visitors the lead.
Arsenal had to avoid defeat and while the opening goal should be credited to the good work of Atlético, the second was a defensive calamity. Having lost the ball in midfield, the entire Arsenal defence were drawn to the ball and a simple pass released Leandro Díaz to slot the ball past Fernando Pellegrino.
Juan Brunetta pulled one back from the edge of the box with ten minutes remaining but it failed to set up a grandstand finish and the visitors held on for all three points.
A little later and Aldosivi deservedly held Atlético Tucumán to a goalless draw in the Monumental Presidente Jose Fierro. El Decano looked a little jaded after their Copa Libertadores exertions and in truth, the match offered little.
