Talleres’ victory over Boca Juniors in La Bombonera served as proof of their status as the Primera’s in-form side but Unión put a dent in that on Monday evening with an impressive 4-2 victory.
Despite Sebastián Palacios putting La T ahead within four minutes, Unión recovered well and just after the half hour mark were level when Lucas Gamba stabbed the ball into the net from close range.
Minutes before the break, Gamba ran clear and finished confidently past Guido Herrera but Talleres showed just why they have been such a difficult side to beat when Palacios bundled in an equaliser.
With the game in the balance the turning point was perhaps Javier Gandolfi’s red card and with the man advantage, Unión capitalised. Franco Soldano swiftly volleyed a third and in the 89th minute Emanuel Britez wrapped up the points from the penalty spot.
Earlier in Bahía Blanca, Olimpo remained in the drop zone after a dull goalless draw with San Martín.
