Monday’s football had implications at the foot of the descenso and while a point was enough for Olimpo to move out of the relegation zone, it left Temperley with plenty of work to avoid the drop.
In La Plata, Temperley put an end to Gimnasia’s five-match winning streak after Abel Peralta’s stunning volley earned the visitors a point.
Lorenzo Faravelli’s controlled finish from the edge of the box looked as though it would give El Lobo a sixth straight victory but Peralta’s control and stinging volley ensured a deserved share of the points. Given Temperley’s position the point does little to help but given El Gasolero’s awful away record, it is a bonus that few would have expected.
A little earlier in Florencio Varela, Olimpo picked up the point needed to ease above Arsenal and climb out of the relegation zone.
Emiliano Tellechea’s deflected strike gave Olimpo a first half lead but a fine Nicolás Stefanelli volley brought the home side level. El Halcón should be safe from relegation and while Olimpo remain in the thick, Mario Sciaqua’s side have at least moved ahead of Arsenal.
Defensa y Justicia 1 – 1 Olimpo
Gimnasia 1 – 1 Temperley
