Gimnasia made it eight Primera matches without defeat and 19 points from a possible 21 after defeating Aldosivi in La Plata on Monday evening.
Gustavo Alfaro’s side are far from the most exciting but have conceded only twice in their last seven games and so Fabián Rinaudo’s fierce long range effort was enough to earn another 1-0 win.
Aldosivi’s task was made all the more difficult after Alan Alegre’s foolish red card before half time and unable to threaten the Gimnasia goal, El Tiburón slumped to a third straight defeat.
A little earlier in the Estadio Alfredo Beranger, Temperley’s hopes of survival diminished further after in-form Rosario Central battled to a 2-1 win over their hosts.
Washington Camacho slotted El Canalla ahead early but relegation threatened Temperley fought back and earned a somewhat scrappy equaliser midway through the second half thanks to Mauro Guevgeozián.
However, parity lasted only a few minutes and when El Gasolero failed to adequately clear a corner, the ball eventually fell to Marco Ruben and the centre forward rifled the ball into the bottom corner.
Temperley’s daunting set of next fixtures against San Lorenzo, Racing and River Plate make survival unlikely while Central have now won four of their last five and look a different side under Paolo Montero in 2017.
