Godoy Cruz move top of Copa Libertadores group six with victory over Sport Boys (VIDEO)

Godoy Cruz claimed an important three points to maintain their unbeaten start to the Copa Libertadores but more importantly take a commanding lead in group six after defeating Bolivian club Sport Boys 2-0 in Mendoza.

El Tomba have been far from convincing in the league but remain a threat in the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas and after a goalless first half eventually made their pressure count.

The influential Pol Fernández, just back from an injury layoff, opened the scoring from close range after seeing his initial effort blocked but being granted a second opportunity thanks to a weak clearance.

With only the one goal, Lucas Bernardi’s side were not comfortable but Javier Correa made sure 20 minutes from time when he bundled the ball past Carlos Arias following a swift counter.

Godoy Cruz travel to Bolivia next week where another win would put them on the brink of the knockout stages.
