After plenty of discussion this week surrounding clubs not allowing players to participate in the under-20 World Cup, coach Claudio Úbeda named the 23 players that will train this week and form his final 21-man squad for the tournament in South Korea next month.
Despite Independiente’s initial reluctance Ezequiel Barco is included in the squad, Santiago Ascacibar will captain the side and Racing’s impressive young striker Lautaro Martínez is also among the group.
Úbeda will work with the squad this week at Ezeiza before confirming his final squad and travelling to Vietnam for two friendlies ahead of the World Cup opener against England on May 20th.
In addition to the 23 under-20s, Argentina will also have the following under-17s for sparring: Agustín Almendra and Javier Obando (Boca Juniors), Elías López and Benjamín Rollheiser (River Plate), Rodrigo Cavallera (San Lorenzo) and Fausto Vera (Argentinos Juniors).
