Godoy Cruz reach Copa Libertadores last 16 with draw against Libertad (VIDEO)

It was a historic evening in Mendoza as Godoy Cruz reached the Copa Libertadores last 16 for the first time in the club’s history after a 1-1 draw with Libertad ensured at least second in group six.

With a game to spare, El Tomba’s unbeaten record in the tournament so far has been enough to ensure their progression and the achievement was clear by the reaction at full time.

Danilo Santacruz’s header had given the Paraguayan visitors the lead and looked for a moment as though it might spoil the party but Juan Garro tapped in an equaliser before half time and that proved enough.

Godoy Cruz are the first Argentine club through to the next round and will certainly be joined by Atlético Mineiro, who they play in a couple of week’s to decide top spot in group six, and Barcelona.
